Wine Song
I have built-in filters in my ears
They soften reality and tell me, “Be blind to yourself”
But in a female’s voice
Grandma, at the post, “All the way shining”
Paying for her utilities in such a voice that lullabies sing
Talking 10 times lullaby thank you
Within the thank you nervous system of the lower world
I’ll skip work this entire week
To hang my legs off the balcony, big and bright
Why would I go back to that lot, put on that elastic?
Please protect my rest
And shoot my enemies with your long gun
When they cough loudly at dusk
While I go to the thrift shop to sell my shoes
Someone cute decided to go eating tonight
Take a walk, so to speak
But at the gate it started with a very thick and heavy rain
And a policeman approached
In jacket, boots, socks, shirt
Almost everything as it would be
He asked if he could enter the gate
If I could press the correct combination on the intercom
I completely declined
Why was this policeman headless?
The cap, black belt, service shorts and pistol . . .
Why was I in this situation?
A nest-of-forty was built on the chestnut in front of my window
There were no leaves
You could watch them thread by thread build it
In the mesh of the air conditioner
A woodpecker has thought to stash his beetles
Yesterday on the way to the creek I met a big mink
So relaxed and textured
I barely escaped the consideration
What does it mean to have at it
To faith in these stinking highs and lows
